Production Photography

Yale College Arts employs undergraduate Production Photographers to document student productions. Photographers are available for dress rehearsals and performances, as well as promotional photo sessions. After each assignment, photographers edit and upload selected images to the Yale College Arts Photo Archive.

Photography is provided at no cost to undergraduate productions.

Availability and session limits

  • Promotional photo sessions: Up to 3 hours
  • Dress rehearsals and performances: Up to 4 hours
  • Eligibility deadline: Production photography is available only for projects presented to the community no later than the first Saturday of reading period.

Photographers are assigned on a first-requested, first-assigned basis, so productions are encouraged to submit requests early. Priority is given to productions offering free admission.

Priority for photographer assignments

Because photographer availability is limited, priority is given to productions that have completed the following production steps:

  1. Met with their Undergraduate Production advisor
  2. Requested a House Manager
  3. Submitted the event to the Yale College Arts Shows and Screenings page
  4. Arranged ticketing or registration by either:

To ensure consistent event management and audience support, photography requests for ticketed events should go through YaleConnect or the Yale College Arts Eventbrite account. Events using outside ticketing platforms will not receive priority for photography coverage.

About the Photo Archive

The Yale College Arts Photo Archive is a resource for students involved in the performing arts and the most comprehensive collection of undergraduate production photography on campus.

Collections are organized by date, venue, and event type, and individual photographs are available to download in multiple sizes. Students can use the archive to:

  • Share production images with cast, production, and creative teams
  • Promote their artistic work
  • Build portfolios

Photo credits

Yale College Arts does not charge productions for photography. In return, participating productions are asked to credit Yale College Arts and the student photographer by name when using photographs, when appropriate.
